FAQ

The Answers You Need

Many people wonder what exactly is Shared Reading and why is it so good us.  Well, here are some answers to questions we are often asked.

IS TO TURN A PAGE A BUSINESS?

Yes, it is but it is a social enterprise.  All profit made by the company goes back into the business.  This social enterprise is the first step on the way to being a not for profit and then, hopefully, a charity. If you want to get involved with us click on contact us and leave an email.

ARE SHARED READING CIRCLES LIKE A BOOK CLUB?

Yes, in that Shared Reading Circles use Literature as a tool.  But No, in that the reading is done together, with everyone attending.  The Circle is also facilitated by a trained Host, who leads the discussion.  It is a safe space to discuss what comes from the words; the feelings and emotions.

HOW IS SHARED READING GOOD FOR ME?

The words in poetry, prose or short stories allow the listener to access feelings.  Shared with other members of the group, in a safe environment, the words provide a connection with others, memories and feelings.  This lifts mood and enhances well-being.

This is a simple idea: people, some Literature, some time and attention, but this allows for space to reflect, investigate, discuss and think about situations and environments.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A SHARED READING GROUP?

A group of usually no more than 8-10 would gather in a circle.  The Host will have already have chosen a text which is read aloud to the whole group.  There follows a time of reflection, on the words, the context and the author. The whole group is encouraged to share their thoughts although they do not have to.  Often the piece is read for a second time allowing for more thought.  The groups usually last for one to one and half hours. A number of poems or pieces may be considered in that time.
