Featured Poem - A Lazy Thought

December 5, 2018

This time of year can be overwhelming.  The combination of end of year, end of school and often moving to another home, jobs, role or even country can focus energy like nothing else.  It is all too easy to get bogged down in the detail of life.

I came across this poem in a collection for children, illustrated by Quentin Blake.  The picture that accompanied the poem showed a small child, with Blake's signature long legs, hanging out of a window observing the hurrying adults below.  It has stayed with me, especially the last three lines; they roll around my head when I get busy, especially at this time of year.

A Lazy Thought

There go the grownups
To the office,
Tothe store,
Subway rush,
Traffic crush,
Hurry, scurry,
Worry, flurry.

No wonder
Grownups
Don't grow up
Anymore.

It takes a lot
Of slow
To grow.
